Weekdays 10AM-3PM

Sonja is the midday host on 100.5 WYMG. She grew up on the music that she plays for you every day and wouldn’t want any other job! When Sonja isn’t getting you through your workday with great tunes, she’s spending time with her husband of almost 20 years, Mark, and their 2 kids Ashley (12) and Ryan (8), spoiled-rotten dog, Sadie, and grumpy cat, Striper. Catch Sonja weekdays from 10am-3pm on WYMG!

Who is your favorite person you’ve met (celebrity/artist)? In 1997 when Aerosmith released “Nine Lives,” they were doing “Meet and Greets” for radio people at their shows. There were about 10 of us from the station who got to spend about 10 minutes talking with the band before taking pictures. All of them – Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joey Kramer – were all so down to earth and personable. Meet and Greets are usually super quick, but they took the time to chat with each one of us.

Favorite food? Broccoli pizza (yes, broccoli!) or anything chocolate.

Craziest thing you’ve ever done? I spent a semester in college living in a castle in The Netherlands. It was a real castle with a moat and everything! We traveled by train every weekend and for 10 days in the middle of the semester. I visited 15 cities and 12 countries in those 3 months!

Favorite childhood TV show? “Family Ties.” It was part of that strong NBC “Must See TV” live-up in the 80’s.

What odd jobs have you done? Worked at an ice cream shop, waited tables, worked at a record store.

Coke or Pepsi? Diet Coke

Favorite childhood memory? I grew up in New Jersey and my parents would rent a beach house for a week every summer at the Jersey shore. It is NOTHING like that crappy TV show! My parents were both teachers, so there wasn’t a lot of extra money. The houses were usually pretty small and not that nice, but we didn’t care! We’d spend the whole week at the beach, playing mini golf, and eating at the local restaurants. My dad’s birthday is in August, so they always planned the vacation to be there for his birthday.

If you could have one super-power, what would it be? Is snapping your fingers and having dinner magically appear on the table a super power? If not, it should be! I DO NOT like to cook. I’ll bake all day, but cooking just isn’t my thing.

Favorite outdoor activity? Hiking! We love to check out trails with the dog.

Favorite indoor activity? Baking, watching movies with my kids, reading.

What’s in your CD player right now? I can’t remember the last time I listened to a CD! I have tons of music on my phone. We also listen to a lot of vinyl at home, some of which my husband unearthed from the depths of his childhood closet at his parents’ house. We’ve been turning the kids on to “Appetite for Destruction” and early Van Halen.

What WYMG artist are you most excited to see? U2 is one of my favorite bands and they always put on a great show. I’ve seen them 8 times and can’t wait to see them again!
