Washington, D.C. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – An annual event hosted by Capitol Media Group station 100.5 WYMG is getting recognized by a national organization.

According to a news release, the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation (NABLF) is giving WYMG its “Celebration of Service to America” award for the annual “Christmas Wish” campaign, where WYMG, the United Way of Central Illinois, and local businesses partner to grant “wishes” of local residents who may have spent time helping others, but who may have fallen hard times on themselves.  Wishes can range from cash to merchandise and other efforts.

“The Capitol Media Group radio stations love serving the Springfield community, and it’s an honor to be recognized by the NAB with this award for WYMG and Christmas Wish,” said Chris Bullock, Capitol Media Group Vice President/General Manager.  “I’m very proud of my Christmas Wish crew.  They work very hard on this each and every year.  We couldn’t do Christmas Wish the way we do it without the support of the United Way of Central Illinois!”

WYMG and Capitol Media Group staff work together on the annual initiative, which has been done the last 17 years.  Money is raised for “wish-granting” through an annual “Classic Rock-a-Thon.”  The United Way helps determine who can be helped.  Those being granted wishes are then a part of an on-air campaign on the station.

“They are the voices you come to trust and sources you turn to without hesitation,” said Michelle Duke, NABLF president, in a news release. “Our local TV and radio stations are fundamental to how communities stay informed, connected and safe. We are excited to shine a deserving light on the stations who excel at public service at the 2026 Celebration of Service to America Awards Gala.”

WYMG is one of ten radio stations, television stations, or ownership groups being honored in 2026.  The awards gala will be held June 9 in Washington, D.C.

CapitolCityNow.com, Newstalk 93.9 & AM 1240 WTAX, and 100.5 WYMG are a part of the Capitol Media Group.
