Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield teen is jailed after he allegedly broke into the home of the mother of his unborn child and assaulted her.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department says it all started on South Douglas Avenue around 11:45 a.m. last Friday.

Deputies believe Marcello Scott, 18, entered the home forcibly, and assaulted the 18-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant.

It’s believed the woman was cooking at the time and used a small kitchen knife to retaliate.

Scott was briefly hospitalized for a stab wound in the chest, but is now in jail awaiting a court appearance on Home Invasion and a pair of battery-related charges.  It is not clear, based on online court records, when Scott will be in court.  Prosecutors have filed a petition to keep him jailed.

It is not believed charges will be filed against the victim.
