Springfield man arrested for DUI crash injuring police officer

Springfield, IL (WAND) – A Springfield man was arrested after police said he crashed into a squad car while drunk.

The crash happened New Year’s Eve at the intersection of East South Grand Avenue and South 5th Street in Springfield.

According to a police report, witnesses said Albert Nacteta-Ngandjui ran a red light, hitting an officer in the squad car.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, with the report stating that he had a concussion and a ruptured eyeball.

Nacteta-Ngandjui was charged wth an aggravated DUI causing an accident and significant bodily harm.

His next court appearance is Jan. 15.
