Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – From extreme cold, to cold and snow, to extreme cold again.

That can best sum up the weather in Central Illinois, which could be worse, given that areas to the east and south received more snow than Springfield ever did Saturday and into Sunday.

Storm reports sent to the National Weather Service in Lincoln indicate about four and a half inches of snow was their official total for Springfield, while areas closer to Chatham recorded six inches or more of snow.

Areas of Southern Illinois recorded a foot of snow, while areas closer to Peoria recorded three inches or less.

More below zero wind chills are in the forecast for a couple days, with a possibility of blowing snow.  An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect until 12 p.m. Monday, with wind chill values near -20.  Actual air temperatures at 6 a.m. Monday were below zero as well.  A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.  That means below zero wind chills and single digit air temperatures, but not as bad as Monday morning.

Blowing snow could be possible in the next couple days.  The forecast indicates highs below freezing for most of this week.
