Nokomis, IL (WAND) – The Nokomis City Council decided Monday night to keep its police department open for now.

Nokomis will rely on the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies to help fill gaps.

The news comes after Nokomis Police Chief Earin Land abruptly resigned on July 1.

Councilmember Michael Glenn made two motions for current police staff to serve as interim chief, but neither motion passed.

This is a developing story.
