UPDATED 1:34 P.M.

Chatham, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The scene of a deadly crash last year is again an accident scene. But everybody is reported safe.

The YNOT after school center and summer camp reports on its Facebook page that an elderly driver lost control of their vehicle, which smashed into a barricade around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

“A vehicle was traveling westbound on Walnut Street when it left the roadway, traveled briefly through a field, and struck a light pole before colliding with the awning support,” said Chatham Police, also on Facebook. “The driver displayed no signs of impairment or intoxication. It appears the cause of this crash may have been due to a medical emergency.”

The two people in the car are reportedly uninjured, and YNOT says the people inside the building did not even notice what happened.

“We know this incident may be troubling for some in our community, considering what took place here last April,” said Chatham Police. “We understand it may also bring back difficult emotions, especially for families in our community with children. We are just so thankful everyone was OK today.”

In April of last year, a driver apparently suffered a seizure and drove off Walnut Street, crashing through the building, killing six children.
