Leland Grove chief faces charges

LELAND GROVE, Ill. (WAND) — The Leland Grove police chief was placed on administrative leave after being arrested on DUI and domestic battery charges early Thursday morning.

Leland Grove Mayor Mary Jo Bangert confirmed Chief Daniel Ryan’s arrest to WAND News. She said Ryan was immediately placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

Illinois State Police told WAND News that it assisted the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office during a disturbance call just after midnight Thursday along the 1000 block of Elliot in Springfield.

Ryan was arrested and later charged with domestic battery and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to ISP.

He is being held at the Sangamon County Jail until his court appearance.

No other information is available at this time.

WAND News has also reached out to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney, but has not heard back yet.

According to the City of Leland Grove website, Ryan has been with the department since 1998.
