Illinois launches streamlined college admissions to boost in-state enrollment

Champaign, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – Graduating college is a huge achievement—but the journey starts long before the diploma. In an effort to make that journey easier, Illinois universities are rolling out a new initiative called “One Click Admission,” aimed at simplifying the college application process and keeping students in-state.

The program eliminates traditional barriers such as lengthy applications and costly fees, which can range from $30 to over $200. One Click Admission aims to change that. The concept is simple: students create a free account, upload their GPA and basic information, and Illinois colleges reach out with admission offers—no application essays or fees required.

The goal is to increase access, particularly for first-generation and low-income students, while helping universities reverse declining enrollment numbers that have lingered since the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the initiative removes the cost of applying, it doesn’t cover tuition or financial aid. Students in need of financial assistance are encouraged to visit the Illinois Student Assistance Commission online. To learn more or sign up, visit the official One Click Admission website.
