Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – HoneyBaked Ham is looking to expand its franchise footprint, and Springfield is near the top of its list of potential new locations.

Eric Edwards, who leads franchise development for HoneyBaked Ham, said the company recently completed a nationwide review of markets where it does not currently operate. That analysis included factors such as community demographics, business climate and customer demand.

“They looked at a lot of different factors such as community type, how business-friendly they were, and areas of the country that already align with our customer base,” Edwards said on the WTAX Morning Newswatch. “Springfield was pretty much right at the top.”

Edwards said the company, which got its start in the Midwest nearly 75 years ago in Detroit, views the region as foundational to its identity.

“The Midwest has always kind of been the cornerstone for our company,” he said. “Springfield is a fantastic, growing community. It’s also a strong family community, very business-friendly.”

He added that ongoing work with local markets and city leaders helped push Springfield higher on the company’s list of potential expansion sites.

Despite broader economic uncertainty, Edwards said the franchise model remains strong. He said consumers are still willing to spend on signature holiday items like ham and turkey, while also relying on more affordable menu options throughout the year.

“A lot of people don’t realize we don’t just sell ham — it’s really a full menu,” Edwards said.

As the company shifts further toward a franchise-based growth model, Edwards said it is seeking owners who are community-focused and locally engaged.

“We’re looking for like-minded people who are connected to the community and can really embrace that market,” he said.
