SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Memorial Hospital has another challenge for you if you’re even finding it difficult these days to go outside and take a walk.

They’re launching another walking challenge — this one called “Trick or Trek” — and it’s simple:  walk a total of 100 miles throughout the month of October.

Or, get around other ways.

“We’re going for the more holistic wellness name,” said Galia Cossyleon, Community Health Consultant, Springfield Memorial Hospital, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.  “Now we want to include, and encourage, our friends who are wheelchair users, and/or just cyclists and would rather go out on a bicycle, to join the challenge.  Previously. we were solely walking.  Now, everybody’s welcome.”

Cossyleon said the previous health challenge was in May, and the goal was only 50 miles.  Now, she says, it’s time to ramp it up, now that summer will be ending.

“For people who complete the 100 miles or more, they will get a free long-sleeved t-shirt, one of a kind,” said Cossyleon.  “Everyone is welcome to participate.  It’s not only for Memorial Health colleagues.  We don’t necessarily have teams, but I’ve known a couple people who are like, ‘I have invited all my friends from pickleball;’, then they have their own sort of competition among themselves.”

Cossyleon says a goal of walking 100 miles in a month is completely attainable, even at an average of almost 3.25 miles every day in October.

Registration is required to participate, and use of a smartphone app is recommended.  CLICK HERE for more information.
