Four arrested related to drug, firearms investigations in Springfield

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Four people have been arrested in the last week by Springfield Police as part of what they say are “several recent investigations” related to drug trafficking.

Police say Dontrell Yount, 23, was arrested May 7 on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm-no FOID.  A search being conducted on that date on South 25th St. allegedly resulted in drug packaging materials, a gun, drug scales, and suspected crack cocaine.

Another search, police say, was conducted on Monday on East Stuart Street resulted in a search of a storage unit.  That investigation allegedly resulted, in total, in the discovery of six guns, fentanyl, crack cocaine, “a significant amount of firearm ammunition,” and more than $10,000 in cash.

In that case, the following arrests were made:

  • Darren Damerell, 36:  Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon
  • Devonee Gray, 53:  Armed violence, possession of a controlled substance
  • Taurus Chapman, 20:  Manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, armed violence, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm-no FOID.

Online court records were not available for any of the four Wednesday afternoon, nor were booking photos available.  As a result, it is not clear when the four will next be in Sangamon County Court.

Springfield Police, according to a news release, say its “Pro Active Crime Unit” was used in both investigations.
