(WAND) – Former Illinois Speaker of the House Mike Madigan has asked President Donald Trump for a pardon.

An online registry through the Department of Justice’s pardon attorney showed Madigan has filed for a pardon after he finishes his sentence.

Specific details about the filing are not clear.

Madigan was found guilty of corruption in June, and has been serving a seven and a half year sentence in a West Virginia prison.

The Velvet Hammer led the state’s Democratic Party for nearly 40 years and resigned as House speaker in February 2021.
