Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A federal jury in Springfield this week found in favor of the City of Springfield, regarding a lawsuit filed, rejecting the claims of the plaintiff that Springfield Police officers unlawfully entered a home during a 2019 incident.

According to online federal court records, the jury did not find for Julia Cave, Larry Greer, Jr., or Larry Anthany Greer, on claims that two Springfield officers unlawfully entered Greer, Jr.’s home, finding instead that Larry Anthany Greer did have a bat in his possession, and that it was a threat to the safety of the officers.

On October 7, 2019, the former boyfriend of another occupant of the Greer home arrived, and wasn’t being allowed to leave.  When Springfield Police officered arrived, they entered the home and pushed Larry Anthany Greer into a couch with a taser at his back, according to the suit.

Several arrests were made that made, and while several police officers arrived at the scene, only two were allowed to be named in the suit, filed October 4, 2021.

As a result of the finding in favor of Police Officers Colin Valenti and Demarreo Johnson, the City of Springfield was dismissed “with prejudice” from the lawsuit — meaning, the judge’s finding was final.
