Ex-Jan. 6 defendant sentenced in wrong-way fatal

Springfield, IL (WAND) – A former Jan. 6 defendant found guilty of reckless homicide has been sentenced to 17 years in the Department of Corrections.

Shane Woods of Auburn intentionally drove the wrong way on I-55 in November 2022, which resulted in one death and three people being injured.

A Sangamon County jury found Woods guilty on multiple charges in April 2025 including reckless homicide, aggravated DUI with a fatality, aggravated DUI with great bodily harm and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Woods was given credit for 1,015 days served while awaiting trial.
