(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s a common complaint: not enough is being done to tighten ethics in state government.

“We’re trying to listen to the legislators,” Gov. JB Pritzker told reporters following an education-related announcement Tuesday in Elmwood Park, “because the vast majority, in fact, nearly all of the legislators, are people who are following all the ethics rules and who want to have their colleagues do better, so it’s really a conversation with the legislature. We’ll see if were able to produce something in the coming full session in January.”

In other words, as opposed to the fall veto session, which begins Nov. 17.

“It’s such a short period of time in the veto session,” the governor continued. “It’s unlikely we’ll have a whole slate of legislation. It’ll just be a few specific items that get brought up.” Asked for specifics, Pritzker said, “I’m encouraging the legislature to take up a bill that would help the Bears to stay in the state of Illinois.” The football team no longer wants to play in Soldier Field and has said it intends to pursue an incentive-rich offer from Indiana to play in Hammond. However, it’s apparent the team has not fully turned its back on Illinois; it owns the land where the Arlington Park racetrack used to stand in Arlington Heights.

The session will run three days the week before Thanksgiving and three days the week after.
