Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A 2026, real-life “League of Their Own” is coming together. While the teams are in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, there is going to be some Springfield involvement in the inaugural season of the Women’s Pro Baseball League.

A league news release announced a news conference Nov. 17 to discuss a partnership between the league and Golden Rule Entertainment, That’s the organization behind the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. Chief storyteller Jamie Toole is one of the speakers listed for the news conference, which will be at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

A WPBL spokeswoman said the news conference would be to announce the partnership, venues, and the inaugural season. A museum spokesman said the only involvement ALPLM has is that the news conference’s organizers have rented space.

Could all of this mean women’s baseball action at Robin Roberts Stadium in 2026? As they say, stay tuned.
