Divernon, IL (WAND) – The Divernon Fire Protection District announced Friday that Energy Transfer awarded them a $21,353.60 grant from Energy Transfer to purchase new emergency equipment.

DFPD said that the grant will be used to improve 11 existing pieces of communication equipment and to purchase new radios and headsets.

“This grant from Energy Transfer enabled us to modify our existing radio equipment and purchase new equipment, providing reliable communication with our neighboring mutual aid partners,” said Divernon Fire Chief Randall Rhodes in a statement.

The grant, which came from Energy Transfer’s First Responder Fund, provides grants to help local first responder agencies throughout the country, like fire departments, regional and local police departments and more.

“These radio upgrades will go a long way to help Divernon firefighters better communicate and stay safe while protecting communities in the area,” added Energy Transfer Manager of Public Affairs Christ Koop in a press release.
