Decatur, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Decatur City Manager Tim Gleason has announced his resignation. This comes after he returned in May, 2024.

In a press release Gleason said, “I’m Grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Decatur once again.” and “This community means a great deal to me. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together–both the projects you can see and many you can’t. I leave knowing the city is in a stronger position and well-prepared for what’s next.”

Gleason’s resignation will become effective no later than October 31, 2025.

Gleason had the job in Decatur from 2015 to 2018, until he left for Bloomington. Gleason made this move to be closer to his father, who was ill. After six years there, he said he chose Decatur despite an offer to stay in Bloomington and one to take the same position.

Gleason’s resignation was submitted in a formal letter to the City Council. The Council said it respects the reasons for his departure. Those reasons were not shared in the city’s announcement.

The City Council will begin the process for appointing an interim City Manager and searching for a new one.
