Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The District 186 budget passed, 6-1, and an assistant principal is on the wrong side of the law.

Board member Micah Miller quizzes business manager Steve Miller about another deficit budget – this time $18 million on spennding of $268 million.

Micah Miller: “Some years we’ve had a $6 million deficit. Some years we had an $8.7 (million). Just a couple of years ago it was $10.3 (million), Do those numbers all still sound close?”
Steve Miller: “FY 22 has been the last time we had a surplus.”

Steve Miller said dipping into the fund balance would be the answer.

Board member Debi Iams cast the only No vote.

Not mentioned during the board meeting: last week’s incident at Lanphier High School in which assistant principal Chris Hampsey allegedly put his hands on a student, pushing and hitting. He’s on “investigative leave” and faces a battery charge.
