Crime of the Week:  Help needed identifying who used stolen excavator to destroy home

Petersburg, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information to assist the Petersburg Police Department in reference criminal damage that occurred in the 200 block of Sheridan in Petersburg.

Sometime between 5pm and 5:30 pm on November 4, 2025, officers responded to the area for a report of an excavator hitting a house. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the excavator that was being used to demolish another property, was broken into and used to hit the front of an adjacent house.

If photos become available, they will be posted on our website.  If you can identify a suspect, suspects or have any other information, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427, submit a tip on our website, or use the P3 mobile app. If your tip results in an arrest you could receive a cash reward up to $2,500.
