Clinton man in custody; wife was beaten to death

(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Clinton man faces charges related to the death of his wife.

At present, Nicholas Smith, 35, is accused of obstructing justice, resisting a peace officer, and concealment of a death. Our news partners at WAND-TV report a news release indicates more charges could be added, pending the investigation.

Cassandra Smith, 34, was found dead Saturday evening, about 24 hours after being reported missing. The news release says she was beaten to death.

The release also quotes the Clinton police chief, Ben Lowers:

“We are grateful for the support of our law enforcement partners and remain committed to pursuing justice in this matter. This tragic loss of life is a stark reminder that domestic violence is not a private matter, it is a serious and urgent public safety issue. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out, help is available.”
