Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Two infants from Illinois are suffering symptoms of botulism, suspected of a connection to ByHeart powdered infant formula, which has been recalled.

The ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula lots which have been recalled are 206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2. Both are marked, “Use by 01 Dec 2026.”

A news release from the Illinois Department of Public Health says ByHeart is not widely used enough — one percent of the formula market — to hamper access to infant formula as a whole. The suspect formula is in ten states.

Symptoms of botulism can include muscle weakness, fatigue, and gastrointestinal problems.

“Botulism is an illness caused by a bacterial toxin, which can produce life-threatening symptoms. Botulism can be in foods that look and taste normally, which means consumers cannot inspect food on their own for botulism safety,” said the IDPH news release.
