Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A place that used to feature horseshoes – and an extensive beer selection – is in the news.

“Aumann Auctions is conducting a liquidation sale of the inventory,” said Michelle Ownbey, publisher of the Springfield Business Journal. “So, if you want to buy one of the beer signs or draft beer taps, or even some of the commercial equipment and dishes, they are selling it all off. The auction is scheduled to end on Dec. 17, and I believe they are allowing people to inspect the items for a brief period of time on Monday, if you want to go in and have a peek at what’s there.

“The building has been for sale since it closed back in 2023, but I’m told that if it does not get a buyer soon, they will auction off the building as well, probably this spring, so maybe somebody can breathe new life into the Barrel Head, whether it’s the same name or a different venture,” continued Ownbey.

Ownbey, who talks business Thursdays on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, said the Barrel Head opened in 1974.
