Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Sangamon County Department of Public Health reports 8 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis in the county. There is currently a nationwide outbreak of cyclosporiasis.

SCDPH tells our news partners at WAND-TV that no hospitalizations have been reported, but that it is believed half of the cases involved people who have returned from Mexico, and the other half have originated in Sangamon County.

According to its website, so far, the Illinois Department of Public Health reports 408 confirmed and probable cases in Illinois. 145 of those cases are attributed to travel outside the U.S. 215 have been domestically acquired. 31 hospitalizations have been associated with cyclosporiasis but no deaths from it have been reported.
