There’s a downside to having a street named after you.

“It will create a problem for me,” said former State Rep. Mike Murphy (pictured, second from left), “because it’s gonna add a few minutes to my drive in the morning, because there’s no way I can go to work no without driving on the McClure-Murphy Parkway.”

It’s an honorary designation for Leland Grove’s portion of Chatham Road. Mayor Mary Jo Bangert (pictured, at microphone) is grateful lawmakers secured the $1 million needed to resurface the notoriously teeth-rattling road.

“It’s gotten a lot better,” said Sen. Steve McClure (pictured, second from right) (R-Springfield). “Our main issue is public safety, and when youve got a road thats that tattered and has that many potholes, something had to be done. And the only way they were going to get funding for that is if we went to the state to get funding and, luckily, Mike and i had the resources in our member initiative funds to take care of it.”
