Sections of Downtown Springfield will be closed at times for the remainder of today and at times tomorrow for the Lincoln Funeral Reenactment. Most of Downtown was closed by 6am this morning for the journey from the Amtrak station to the Old State Capitol. The following streets are closed for the entire weekend:
6th between Monroe and Jefferson
Washington between 5th and 7th
Adams Street 7th and 6th
Capitol Street 6th and 7th.
Several thoroughfares will also see some closures Sunday as well for the trip from the Old State Capitol to Oak Ridge cemetery:
Jefferson between 9th and 2nd
Madison between 2nd and 5th
Washington between 2nd and 9th
5th south of Madison
7th south of Madison
Capitol between 2nd and 9th
Edwards between 4th and 9th
Cook between 9th and 4th
6th at Lawrence
4th at Lawrence
Jackson between 2nd and 4th
Monroe at 2nd
Downtown streets will begin to open back up once the procession crosses Carpenter; all streets that cross 4th between Carpenter and North Grand will be closed and opened as the procession heads north. North Grand between 2nd and 5th will be closed around 1. All streets crossing 3rd between North Grand and the Oak Ridge entrance will be closed and opened as the procession proceeds north. It begins at 12pm and is expected to reach Oak Ridge at 3pm. There will be “No Parking” signs along the procession route. SMTD will also offer a special route to those would would like to take the bus to Oak Ridge to attend ceremonies.
The cemetery will be closed to vehicular traffic Sunday from 5am to 5pm.
