Springfield, IL – The Sangamon Mass Transit District will re-start its “urbanized
area” service to Chatham, Riverton, Rochester, and Sherman on Monday, June 7th.

The routes have been re-designed during their suspended period caused by the pandemic.

Fare to board in each community is $1, and boarding in Springfield is the regular $1.25 fare.

The routes were redesigned to run multiple trips inside each community before
returning to the Springfield transfer center just a couple of times each day to relieve operators.

The routes can be seen at www.SMTD.org/routes. Scroll down to “Urbanized Area
Routes” and look for the following:
410 – Titan Express (Chatham)
420 – Rocket Shuttle (Rochester)
430 – Bullet Bus (Sherman)
440 – Hawk Line (Riverton)

Clicking on the individual route link will pull up a map that is interactive, and scrolling
down the page will show the schedule for that route. The schedules are customized for each area but do return to Springfield at times that should allow for transfers with regular fixed routes at the Transfer Center when they do arrive and depart.
Instead of getting to and from Springfield, now some residents can use the service to
get to the grocery store, pharmacy, or other destinations closer to home without ever having to go to Springfield.
More information on riding SMTD can be found at the website, www.SMTD.org.
