Sangamon County Clerk Starts Online Marriage License Applications

If you’re getting married in Sangamon County, you can cut the time you spend dealing with the Sangamon County Clerk’s office in half with something they just implemented.

Clerk Don Gray says an online marriage application has been devised and is live now on the county clerk’s website.

“When the individual is key-stroking their pertinent information into the application, that’s uploaded into our system when it’s submitted,” says Gray. “That’s what gives it uniqueness and something new to Illinois.”

Gray says Champaign County has something similar already, but it’s not automatically integrated into their registry system like Sangamon County’s is.

“The majority of the time to apply for a marriage license in our office…is usually centered around obtaining this information we need for the application for them to sign,” says Gray. This will dramatically increase the time for us to process someone, by them doing it before arrival.”

Gray does say you still have to come to the clerk’s office once the application is complete to finish the process and pay a $75 registration fee.
