Sangamon County Coroner Cindy Edwards has identified a concert-goer that fell into a pit in front of the stage Sunday night at a concert at UIS Sangamon Auditorium.

51-year-old John Kremitizki of Petersburg was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital at 12:18pm Monday. Edwards says the preliminary autopsy says his fatal injuries are consistent with the fall into the pit and no foul play is expected. A final autopsy will come following the results of further testing.

Sangamon Auditorium Director Bob Vaughn has issued a statement expressing sympathies to Kremitzki’s family, and thanking first responders for how quickly they helped.  Vaughn says he’s cooperating with the investigation into what happened.

Vaughn’s full statement:

“The entire Sangamon Auditorium family was saddened by the tragic accident on Sunday night. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John Kremitzki. We also extend profound gratitude to the first responders and those in the audience who did all they could to help Mr. Kremitzki. Our staff is cooperating fully with medical and law enforcement professionals to determine what happened and to ensure a positive experience for all of our guests.”
