The world’s largest covered wagon was no match for the latest round of frigid arctic air rolling into central Illinois.
Nancy Saul, interim director of the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County, says wind gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour Sunday night knocked the Lincoln tourist attraction on its side.
“It’s an oak wagon, it’s 24 feet high and 12 feet wide,” said Saul. “It’s 40 feet long, it weighs 5 tons. The wheels are ten feet tall.”
Experts spent Monday afternoon assessing the damage, the bureau will meet in a special meeting Tuesday night to determine the next move. Saul wasn’t certain if the damage is fixable, or if the wagon is replaceable.
