An improper mileage reimbursement is the latest in a series of missteps for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources this year.
Ronald House is director of the office of land management for IDNR. The Associated Press found in a review of state records that House had received $7,200 in improper mileage reimbursement for travel between his southern Illinois home in Benton and his Springfield office. He will repay the money.
Earlier this year, a department administrator resigned after it was reported he attended professional fishing tournaments while on sick leave. And two mine-safety regulators were found to have accepted political contributions from a coal-mine operator.
A spokesman says Gov. Pat Quinn believes department Director Marc Miller acted appropriately in the incidents.
