U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) says it seems to be the only way to get President Trump’s attention: Twitter.
Tweeting won't stop the violence – How about working to address the root causes of violence like #EconomicJustice & #GunTrafficking? https://t.co/zDZmRCxR4U

Thursday evening, the President again tweeted about Chicago violence, saying it’s “totally out of control,” and “Chicago needs help.”
About an hour later, Duckworth tweeted, “Tweeting won’t stop the violence – How about working to address the root causes of violence like #EconomicJustice & #GunTrafficking?”
Opening her Springfield office on the Old State Capitol Plaza Friday afternoon, the new U.S. senator from Illinois expanded on that.
“If he wants to fix the issue of violence in our cities, not just Chicago, but the opioid epidemic, then come out,” she said. “Come out and talk to the people on the ground who are dealing with this every single day, and you will see that many of the issues have to do with economic development. We actually need economic input and stimulus in places like the south side of Chicago. We need to bring jobs into the local Springfield economy.”
As for the new office, Duckworth says she likes the visibility and accessibility to the public that the Old State Capitol Plaza offers. The location is next to the Feed Store.
Duckworth’s Illinois offices are in Chicago and Springfield, with more to come.
