Branch Collection Program Expanded.

Springfield, Illinois – The City of Springfield’s Office of Public Works announced that the city’s branch collection program has been expanded from a spring and fall pick-up to four pick-ups a year. Branch collection will now occur in each neighborhood in May, August, November, and February. The schedule is pre-set and crews will work in specified areas of the city each week. Each resident will receive one pick-up in May, August, November, and February during the branch collection schedule.

The first pick-up of 2021 will begin Monday, May 3. Branches must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. of your area’s pick-up week. Each monthly pick-up will last four weeks. Below is the branch pick-up schedule based on the quadrants. Attached is a pick-up calendar for the year.

Week of May 3, August 2, November 1, February 7

Northwest Quadrant – area north of South Grand Avenue and Old Jacksonville Road. West of Walnut Street/J David Jones Parkway.

Week of May 10, August 9, November 8, February 14

Southwest Quadrant – area south of South Grand Avenue and Old Jacksonville Road. West of Walnut Street.

Week of May 17, August 16, November 15, February 21

Southeast Quadrant– area south of South Grand Avenue and east of Walnut Street, including the properties around Lake Springfield.

Week of May 24, August 23, November 22, February 28

Northeast Quadrant – area north of South Grand Avenue and east of Walnut/J. David Jones Parkway.

Complete information including a map indicating where branch pick-up crews are working will be available on the city’s website, www.springfield.il.us under the “Residents” tab and “Branch Pick-up” button. Weekly notification will also be included in the city’s Friday e-newsletter and social media pages.

Resident Instructions

The City of Springfield will pick-up branch piles from residents:

No larger than 3 feet in height, 4 feet in depth, and 10 feet in length;
Piles larger than a small pick-up load will not be picked up by the city;
The program is for branches only, no firewood or precut logs will be accepted;
Branches/limbs trimmed by a commercial contractor will NOT be picked up;
Branches must be placed on the curb not obstructing the street or sidewalk;
Branches must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Monday of the area’s pick-up week;
Small branches may be broken up and put into yard waste bags; and
Branches are NOT allowed on center boulevards.

Residential Branch Drop Off

Residents may drop off branches to Evans Recycling with proof of residency until the end of March, 2022. This service is not for commercial contractors but for city residents only. Evans Recycling is located at 2100 J. David Jones Parkway and is open Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 12-noon. Contact number is 217.391.0886.

Branch Piles Are NOT Considered Yard Waste

As a reminder, the city’s branch pick-up is a DIFFERENT program from the city’s yard waste collection that is now a year-round program. The branch pick-up program occurs four times a year in May, August, November, and February.
