A ten year old boy was taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital with life threatening injuries after an accident in rural Illiopolis.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department says the boy was driving a lawn tractor pulling a trailer near the intersection of Mechanicsburg/Illiopolis and Mt. Auburn roads around 8:30 last Monday night. He was heading westbound, and so was a pickup, which rear ended the lawn tractor and trailer. The 25 year old the boy was pulling was not seriously injured and apparently jumped out before impact.

The driver of the pickup, a 20 year old man from Buffalo who’s not been identified, was not injured at all. It’s unclear why a ten year old was driving a lawn tractor down the road at night.
