UPDATE: Woman dead after Springfield shooting

UPDATED 3:38 p.m. 7/20/25

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A shooting victim died early Saturday. Springfield police say they were called to the 1900 block of Holly Drive for a report of a shooting, and officers found a woman who had been shot.

This happened around 3:30 Saturday morning. The woman was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon identified the woman Sunday as Rekeea Jackson-Mason, 36, Chatham. Allmon says she was pronounced dead 40 minutes later, and an autopsy confirms she died from a gunshot wound.
