Springfield man arrested for first degree murder in Stevenson Drive shooting

Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) -A Springfield man has been arrested in the shooting death of 47-year-old Calvin Bell. Emmanuel K. Watts, 38, was arrested Saturday afternoon by Springfield Police for first degree murder and multiple weapons charges.

Watts is being held in the Sangamon County Jail awaiting formal charges by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Bell was found with a gunshot wound by police just after 2 a.m. on Saturday in the 800 block of Stevenson Drive. Police responded to a call for a large fight, and 911 dispatchers reported hearing gunshots in the background while taking the call.

Bell was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
