Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Salvation Army of Springfield feeds hundreds of Central Illinois families each month but now they say because of high demand they need help keep their shelves stocked.
They are holding what they hope will be the first of many semi-annual food drives beginning Tuesday and running through June 15th.
Local director, Jeff Eddy, tells Capitol City Now they hope to gather enough in food donations and financial help from the community to keep the pantry going for 6 months.
He says they feed about 100 families each week with the biggest demand on Monday. He says many folks have to do without food for the weekend.
Chair of the SA advisory board, Cory Taylor, says they are in need of non-perishable dry goods, canned goods, pasta, rice, and potatoes.
The public can drop off donations at the Salvation Army at 1600 E. Clear Lake or check their Facebook page for participating drop-off points.
