(WAND) – The Restaurant Meals Program now includes 50 restaurants where eligible SNAP recipients can use their Link cards to buy meals.

According to the Illinois Department of Human Services, the program provides meals to over 400,000 households.

To be eligible for RMP, members have to be 60 or older, have a disability, are married to eligible elderly or disabled people, or experiencing homelessness.

IDHS wants to continue to expand the program and eventually wants to be able to provide prepared meals to customers in every county.

“For SNAP households that may have difficulties with purchasing and preparing meals themselves, the RMP provides options to access prepared meals in their communities,” IDHS Secretary Dulce M. Quintero said. “We are proud to expand this program across the state and support access to food resources in Illinois.”
