Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Nobody likes a bad report card.

District 186 assistant superintendent of teaching and learning Nicole Nash Moody (pictured) told the school board Monday what’s expected for all,

“Our district expectation is that our schools are approaching or exceeding 32 percent of their student population at the 61st percentile or above. Why the 61st percentile? Because that is approaching mastery or proficiency.”

But five schools have been so consistently poor-performing on the Illinois Report Card that they are now under “intensive school progress monitoring.” Still, board member Sarah Blissett said things are not that bad.

“I know that these numbers are not reflective of what is happening in these schools all the time,” she said. “There are great things happening every single day. We all know it. I just want you to get to that ‘commendable’ status that I know you all deserve.”

The five underperforming schools are Harvard Park, Washington, Jefferson, Feitshans, and Lanphier.
