UPDATE – WTAX News has been told the city, while allowing Caitlyn Weiss to participate in public comment, has imposed a 30-day blackout on audio / video of her because of her use of profanity at a previous meeting.
UPDATE – City communications director Haley Williams emailed a response Wednesday morning. In addition to explaining that work had been done on the sound system, and that the press box audio problem would be investigated, Williams said she cannot be expected to issue an immediate response during a city council meeting, which she said is “after hours.” But when city chief of staff Mike Disco made WTAX’s Dave Dahl’s audio complaint known to Williams, she was available to text Disco, “Tell Dave to turn up his headphones.”

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Tuesday’s Springfield city council meeting was a repeat in many ways.
Caitlyn Weiss. whose sister was badly injured in a crash involving an allegedly drunk just retired police sergeant. complained for the second straight week the city has not cooperated with her attempts to talk with officials about the incident in which Chelsey Farley and her boyfriend – on a motorcycle – collided with an SUV driven by Michael Egan. But radio and television reporters covering Tuesday’s meeting do not have a recording of what Weiss said. The sound system for the council was not working Tuesday. The mayor’s chief of staff said work had been done on the sound system, and the city’s communications director did not respond to WTAX News’ repeated texts and emails Tuesday.
Weiss’ remarks are also absent from the city’s You Tube video of Tuesday’s meeting. Accompanying the five minutes of silence: a black screen.
