Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For many, the Governor’s Sale of Champions is the high point of the Illinois State Fair.

Kadie Hummel, a new high school graduate from Cabery, Ill., is headed to a community college in Kansas to study animal science and serve on a livestock judging team. She raised the prize-winning steer, which Gov. JB and First Lady MK Pritzker purchased for $105,000 to donate to food banks.

“I’ve been washing him morning and night all summer,” Hummel said. “He was the judges’ type. He is sound, built from the ground up, and he has quite a personality, too.”
