2 Springfield YMCA Teams will compete in the 2-Ball Basketball State Championship

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A send-off event for two Springfield YMCA teams that earned finalist spots in the Illinois Alliance of YMCAs 2-Ball Basketball Championships was held Saturday afternoon. 2-Ball Basketball consists of two person teams competing to score the most points by shooting basketballs from 6 designated spots on the court in one minute.

The team of Will Trapp and Jude Tennil earned a finalist spot in the 2-Ball basketball state championship in the 7-8 boys age division among all other YMCAs in Illinois with a score of 35 points after winning their division in the Springfield YMCA’s 2-Ball tournament on December 28, 2024. They will compete in the 2-Ball Championship during half-time at the ISHA Boys 1A Basketball Championship on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in Champaign, Illinois.

In the girls 11-12 age division, Hallie Johnson and Alivia Lewey earned their place in the State 2-Ball Championship game with a score of 47 in the Springfield Y 2-Ball Tournament, one of the highest scores in any division in the state, boys or girls. They will compete for 2-Ball State Champion on Saturday, March 8 during half-time of the IHSA Girls 4A Basketball Championship in Normal, Illinois.

All the finalists stated they were very excited to have made it to the championships and had been practicing a lot in order to make it this far and will continue to do so to prepare for the big day.
