SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Two months into the school year, transportation provider First Student is still not meeting its goals with District 186. Following Monday’s school board meeting, superintendent Terrance Jordan reviewed the top goals coming out of a meeting he had Monday with First Student.

“We get to 95 percent on-time rate. We need to get there. Bottom line,” said Jordan. “We want to look at the top twenty most challenging routes to make sure they are realistic. Even if you have to go out and drive that route, we need to know if it’s possible to be on time with that route.”

The superintendent said he is not angry with the bus company. “You have to think about how complex transportation is. We’re transporting almost 7,000 kids twice a day,” said Jordan. “We can expect that there are going to be challenging. Some of it is on us. Some of it is on our parents. Some of it is on First Student.”

Jordan said if a school bus contract with First Student were up to a vote now, the board would be unlikely to approve.
