Topinka on Legislative Term Limits: They’re “Stupid”

Illinois’ Republican Comptroller has some strong opinions on legislative term limits.

“I think it’s stupid,” Topinka said during the keynote address at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association’s spring convention. “You’re going to get rid of a lot of institutional knowledge. I mean, who’s going to run this place when nobody knows how it runs?”

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner is trying to get a term limit initiative on this November’s ballot. Asked what she thought of the governor’s race, she was initially hesitant.

“It’s exciting isn’t it,” she asked, then paused, which elicited laughs from the room in Peoria. “They’re both very qualified people, they both have very different ideas. I don’t think a lot of folks in the Republican party know Bruce Rauner very well, there’s still a courtship that’s involved here.”
