Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Now that a data center will be built in Sangamon County much to the anger of some, there’s talk of another renewable energy farm coming to the area, and that might also raise the ire of some.

This, as CyrusOne prepares to build across the road from a solar farm near Waverly.

“From what I understand, it’s going to come up on the agenda at the June Sangamon County Board meeting,” said Michelle Ownbey, Executive Editor, Springfield Business Journal, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.  “But, they pretty much have to approve it or else they will be opening themself up to a legal challenge.”

That legal challenge, Ownbey reports, would be regarding a state law last year that essentially forces renewable energy projects to be approved if they’re zoned properly.

The 1,700 acre solar farm, Ownbey says, is planned for south of New Berlin on private land.
