You Can Drive My Car

You Can Drive My Car

Two members of Congress: opposite sexes, opposite parts of the country, opposite parties – and opposite vehicles.

For one day, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) will rent the model of vehicle driven by U.S. Rep. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.), and vice versa Friday. Davis drives a Ford F-150 Crew Cab pickup, and Hahn drives an electric-powered Nissan Leaf.

The two serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where, Davis says, Hahn brags she has paid nothing into the Highway Trust Fund for six years, since she does not buy gasoline. That will change drastically once she climbs into the Crew Cab.

“I can’t leave Bloomington-Normal with” the Leaf, Davis says, because “I’m not going to have a charging station (available). It serves to highlight the regional differences in our transportation networks, which is why I have been advocating for looking at a portfolio of sources.”

And one more thing Davis says about Hahn and the big truck: “I can’t wait till she tries to park it.”
