Workplaces Can Promote Health

A new program aims to encourage Illinoisans to develop healthy habits at work.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is launching the Illinois Healthy Worksite recognition program to encourage employers to promote healthier lifestyles. The department’s director, Dr. Lamar Hasbrouck, says small things like providing more healthful foods can go a long way.

“You’re not born with a healthy behavior,” Hasbrouck said. “The good news is that habits are hard to break, so if you develop good habits, they’re hard to break. The bad news is bad habits are hard to break, so if you develop bad habits, it’s hard to break those also.”

Employers will be able to earn bronze, silver, and gold designations based on how many healthy activities they promote in the workplace.
