Wet Spring Could Hike Produce Costs

You could see higher prices in the produce aisle this spring and summer.

The University of Illinois’ Dr. Jennie Atkins says the wet spring and a forecast of more of the same next month are keeping farmers out of the fields.

“Right now with what they are predicting at least for June, it will be colder with temperatures below average,” Atkins says.

As planting schedules fall behind, that could mean harvesting will be behind schedule as well. Atkins says that could raise prices at the check-out.
