Springfield Police May Get Body Cams

Some police officers across Illinois could soon be wearing body cameras to record their interactions with the public.

Springfield Mayor Mike Houston  is considering spending $200,000 next budget year.

“Chief Winslow has wanted the personal cameras for his officers.¬† It does two things for us; it protects the public and it protects the police offcers,” says Houston.

Houston says the camera initiatives started before a police officer killed Michael Brown last month in Missouri. Springfield is in the process of putting dash-mounted cameras in new police cars.
